WHY THE STATEMENT FROM NEOPETS ISN'T ENOUGH

For months now, users on the General Discussion neoboard have been complaining about odd behavior from the moderation. Threads not against the rules would be removed, users warned or silenced, and tickets to support would be left unanswered. As somebody with a bit moderation experience myself, for a long time I assumed in good faith there must be a reasonable explanation, never assume malice when something else sufficiently explains it, etc. However for the last several days – since the General Discussion board was changed to 'General Neopets Discussion' - I've been backing up threads of a 'controversial nature' and monitoring them for changes, seeing which posts get actioned and how fast versus which ones are permitted to stay up for hours – and I have come to one definitive conclusion:

Neopets is not a safe website. Not for Trans people. Not for any kind of vulnerable people. And DEFINITELY not safe for children.

The promise TNT put out to the trans community – while hollow and meaningless– is also insidious in the way it scapegoats the greater issue of Neopet's inability to moderate their website onto the trans community – as if protecting them with sufficient moderation is some sort of good will gesture they failed to do and not something that is ESSENTIAL to the function of a website that targets minors in its advertising. The staggering lack of professionalism was bad enough, but what really tipped me over the edge in compiling all this was the completely unacceptable turn around times to get harmful and dangerous material removed from the site.

Here is my proof that TNT lies as easily as they breathe:

All screenshots are cropped and resized from full page backups for readability and have been redacted to remove usernames/pet names in advance to comply with anti-harassment rules. I do not encourage confronting or harassment of any users – the screenshots are featured purely to illustrate the grievous negligence of moderation. The raw screenshots and recordings have been backed up externally in an unaltered state for posterity.

PART 1: HATE SPEECH AND CONSPIRACY THEORIES LEFT UP FOR HOURS

During the late hours of the night and early hours of the morning the day after General Discussion was changed to General Neopets Discussion and multiple warning s had already been handed out (some retroactively) for 'non-neopets topics' to regular posters – a user began spamming the boards with hate speech and conspiratorial rhetoric.

(Trigger Warning for hate speech, extreme transphobia, little sprinkle of racism, and weird/disturbing conspiracy theories)

I think I made my case, so I'm not going to needlessly post every example I have and expose that vitriol to the world - what I've already posted is beyond heinous. This user and their posts were unacceptable by any reasonable application of the rules. Why were they left up as long as they were? Why were other, more recent threads being moderated but these posts escaped their attention? This was when I started backing up and preserving threads. Other users and I did as staff instructed us and mass reported the posts and yet there was no action taken for hours.

Ask yourself if you would want your trans friends seeing posts like this? What about your PoC friends? What about your kids? Would you want children to see this kind of deranged ranting when they log on to feed their pet before school?

Why did it take till almost half past noon on a tuesday for a thread that had been mass-reported and repeatedly pinged by mods to receive any kind of attention? We've repeatedly been told by staff that 'moderation is 24/7' but if that's true then this looks MUCH worse for them.

((I'm still cooking part 2 and 3 - apologies it's coming along slowly there is a lot of raw data to sift through to line up and prove that other threads were still being actioned/deleted while these types of threads remained up (and I had irl stuff come up)- I hope this part at least helps to illuminate how dire the situation is to anyone who hasn't been watching it unfold with their own eyes)).
